Supports for Community Living

Enhancing Independence in the Community

The emphasis of Supports for Community Living (SCL)  is to develop each person’s capacity for living as independently as possible. Our Brain Injury Specialists work with survivors to establish goals and provide the skills, strategies and tools required to meet those goals.

Supports for Community Living Services is funded through the Alberta Brain Injury Initiative – Community and Social Services.

Inclusion Critera

  • Acquired or traumatic brain injury survivor
  • Able to develop and work on goals with minimal staff support
  • Lives in a safe environment
  • Does not rely on overnight paid supports
  • Any mental health or substance use must be managed through other supports
  • Ability to achieve their goals within two years of starting the program

  • Self-advocacy skills
  • Memory strategies
  • Organizational skills
  • Computer, cell phone, tablet skills
  • Emotional support strategies

Daily Living Skills

  • Communication skills
  • Community awareness
  • Use of transportation and transit
  • Household management
  • Money management
  • Menu planning, grocery shopping
  • Safety issues
  • Literacy
  • Leisure and recreational activities

Services

  • Offered in the individual’s home and/or in the community
  • Anywhere in the Calgary Rockyview Region
  • Supports are limited to 10 hours/week
  • Available 7 days per week during the day and evening
